Emergency Grant Helps Volunteer Fundraising
Special COVID-19 funding from the Clothworkers’ Foundation has provided a boost to the work of Beverley Community Lift (BCL) during this lockdown period.
The Foundation, which supports charitable projects covering a wide range of activities including those for older people affected by isolation, awarded BCL more than £670 to purchase IT equipment. The funding has enabled our volunteer, Denise, to continue her dedicated work from home, using a new laptop.
Denise says: “I am usually in the office two days a week but found some tasks more difficult to complete as I didn’t have the same resources at home. The funding for the laptop from the Foundation is very welcome as I can now access all the information I need remotely.”
The effects of the lockdown have meant grants being sought to help fund BCL’s core operating costs, something usually covered through the regular minibus, car and charity shop activities. It has also seen us change the ways we help the community, with volunteers making shopping trips for vulnerable passengers who are unable to go out, taking people to necessary medical appointments, and regular telephone contact with its customer base to check people are coping, giving them some social contact.
This is the second time the Foundation has supported BCL, as it also awarded the charity a grant of £9,900 towards the purchase cost of our new minibus, Clover, which was unveiled earlier this year.
